Acting Principal Strategist
People with Disability Portfolio
Adam Politis is the Acting Principal Strategist for the People with Disabilities Employment Portfolio in the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Prior to joining EDI, Adam worked as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and Chief of the Speech-Language Pathology Section in the NIH Clinical Center. Before joining NIH, Adam worked extensively with people with disabilities in a variety of clinical, research, and administrative roles in healthcare and academia.
As a person with a disability who has worked his entire career with people with disabilities, Adam is acutely aware of the discrimination individuals with disabilities face, and the urgent need to make the world a more equitable, inclusive, and accessible place for all.
Adam received a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley, a B.S. and M.S. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington, and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Of all the education he has received, Adam believes the most valuable has come from the thousands of people with disabilities he has had the honor of learning from over the course of his career.
