What gained you interest in the NIH?

I found a job vacancy for a Contract Specialist at the NIH, and applied. NIH’s mission of saving lives and preventing diseases was very appealing to me. Our work at the NIH is a positive contribution to humanity. I happily and proudly stand by the NIH.

What kind of work do you do at the NIH?

I am a Contract Specialist. I create, execute, and manage many NIH contracts for a variety of programs. I procure various services and products while supporting NIH’s mission and meeting our obligation of making the best use of tax dollars. As a Contract Specialist, I must understand procurement laws and act as an agent for the Federal government before obligating funds.

What message would you like to send to young Hispanics who are considering going to college?

Please go to college! A solid education on your resume can put your application at the top of the list! Apply to as many scholarships as you can! Consider going to a local college for the first two years to meet the primary school requirements. Next, find and attend a higher visible college for the degree that you will be pursuing. Remember, be on the lookout for scholarship programs and jobs that offer to pay for your degree. You will be a candidate highly sought after with your educational accomplishments. When there is a will, there will always be a way to help you through. If I did it, you can too! A positive attitude is EVERYTHING!
