What gained your interest in the NIH?
My Wife told me about NIH in a conversation many years ago. She told me many things about it but, in essence it is the nation’s medical research entity. A year or two later I was applying for jobs and found that there might be a position for me at NIH. I thought to myself, this would be great. Working at a place that truly makes a difference in the world would make me happy. So, I applied and I was offered a position.
What kind of work do you do at the NIH?
I am a Contract Specialist. I love my job because I have many roles, which means that I don't do the exact same thing every day. To give you an idea; I am a business advisor to Program Managers, assisting them in planning for and acquiring goods and services so they can accomplish their mission, research study, or effort. I also negotiate contracts with individuals, or organizations, and resolve conflicts and disputes. I interpret laws and apply proper procedures to specific issues. I monitor contracts (including administering, extending, modifying, or terminating as needed. I collaborate with others or work on teams.
