¡No te rindas! Habla, para ser escuchado. No des las cosas por sentado.
Power Words: English:
Don’t give up! Speak up, be heard. Don’t take things for granted.

Where were you born?

Bronx, NY

What school did you attend?

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park for my Bachelors in Public Health Science in 2016. Currently, I am pursing my Masters at University of Maryland University College for Healthcare Administration and anticipate to graduate this fall.

What gained you interest in the NIH?

I’ve always wanted to work at the NIH since pursing my undergrad degree in 2015. I love serving the public health especially through an agency that catalyzes biomedical research. The hard work, dedication, and mission is something that I strive for every day at work.

What kind of work do you do at the NIH?

I am currently in the Pathways Program (Student Intern) and have been for 3 years now. Throughout my time I have worked as a Human Resource Assistant in OHR, and Admin Tech in the Clinical Center and am now working towards converting out to an Administrative Officer for the National Institute on Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). I work with reviewing travel, personnel packages, fellows, and special projects for Intramural Research.

What message would you like to send to young Hispanics who are considering going to college?

As the first college graduate from my family, I think investing in your education and future is vital to widen your opportunities. My advice is to keep your end goal in mind with every decision that you make and ask yourself if this decision will move you closer to your goal or backwards? College helped me find what I really wanted to do and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’m also learning many things at school go hand in hand with healthcare administration and I’m learning things at work that I can apply to school. It is very cool to always learn and be able to share that knowledge!
