Where were you born?

Boston, Massachusetts

What school did you attend?

The State University of New York, Purchase College

What gained you interest in the NIH?

I was deeply attracted to the worthy related goals of advancing biomedical research, to help understand the biological basis of life so that we can uncover effective treatments for alleviating human disease.

What kind of work do you do at the NIH?

As a Health Science Administrator at the Center for Scientific Review, I organize and manage scientific committees (study sections) to evaluate the relative merits of grant applications submitted for funding to the NIH. This highly-rewarding work is the mainstay of our ability to advance basic science and medicine. What message would you like to send to young Hispanics who are considering going to college?

College is fundamental for learning about the larger social and material world we live in, and for applying critical thinking and knowledge to the challenges we face. These abilities also collectively allow one to seek and obtain a rich and rewarding personal life and satisfying career. No other experience in my view can substitute for a college education.
