Where were you born? 

Waukesha, Wisconsin

What school did you attend? 

University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus

What gained you interest in the NIH? 

I wanted to be trained by renowned scientists in my field and take advantage of the unique and outstanding opportunities offered here at NIH. I came to the NIH to pursue my postdoctoral training at NIDA in the Baltimore campus.

What kind of work do you do at the NIH? 

I direct a new summer program for high school students called HiSTEP. The program provides opportunities to learn about research and healthcare careers, while participants develop leadership and communication skills. I oversee and manage all aspects of the program.

What message would you like to send to young Hispanics who are considering going to college? 

Have perseverance and take advantage of all the opportunities that come to you. You will find many people willing to help you and guide you towards your goals. Go for it!
