Puerto Rico

What school did you attend? 

University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras; Baylor College of Medicine, Houston

What gained you interest in the NIH? 

The wide range of expertise in different areas of neuroscience and the prospect of being part of and help build a newly developed group of intramural investigators that shared the common goal of studying neural bases of pain.

What kind of work do you do at the NIH? 

I am a Principal Investigator at the NCCIH, where I lead a lab focused on studying the brain mechanisms underlying the modulation of pain.

What message would you like to send to young Hispanics who are considering going to college? 

Select a career path that you feel passionate about and work hard to achieve your goals. Identify and make the most of all available resources. Look for help when you need it- you don’t need to do this alone and there’s plenty of people that will want to help you. The path can be difficult at times but it is 100% worth the effort.
