August is Anti-Retaliation Month

Words matter, speak-up, respond, take action!

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has declared August 2018 as Anti-Retaliation Month in efforts to take proactive steps to educate and inform managers and supervisors that retaliation is not tolerated and make them aware of helpful anti-retaliation resources. Simultaneously, employees are being educated on what retaliation is, their rights and responsibilities, how to seek more information and assistance, and how to remedy a suspected retaliation situation.

Retaliation occurs when employers treat applicants, employees, former employees, or people closely associated with these individuals, less favorably than others because the person reports discrimination, participates in a discrimination investigation or lawsuit (for example, serving as a witness), or opposes discrimination (for example, threatening to file a charge or complaint of discrimination).

The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) has various activities and training taking place throughout the month of August in observance of the Anti-Retaliation Campaign. We hope to see you there!
