From the NIH Director: NIH 2020 Pride Month

Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D.

Dear NIH Family,

This June, NIH is happy to recognize Pride Month. To celebrate, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion’s (EDI) Pride Month theme is 20/20 Vision: Learning From the Past, Looking to the Future. This year’s Pride Month campaign features 20 visionary leaders and aims to highlight the diversity of the LGBT community, both past and present, at NIH. Through their example, these visionaries offer each of us inspiration.

The LGBT community at NIH has worked hard to ensure our organization is an inclusive and welcoming place to work. Through their commitment to advancing the frontiers of health research, our lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender colleagues contribute each day to NIH’s excellence and remind us of the power of dedication and resilience.

Beyond Pride Month, NIH continues its efforts to promote inclusion. This effort enhances our mission of public health and scientific discovery. Affirming the value and dignity of every human being goes hand in hand with the mission of NIH. I am therefore proud to take this month to honor and appreciate the work and achievements of the LGBT community and our sexual and gender minority (SGM) employees, fellows, and contractors.

Please visit the EDI Pride 2020 webpage at www.edi.nih.gov to join us in celebrating Pride Month. For more information about Pride and other EDI 365 events, visit EDI’s SGM Portfolio page. You can also follow EDI on Twitter and Instagram.

We are buoyed by LGBT leaders both past and present and strive to continue their work by fostering a community of compassion and understanding here at NIH.

Sincerely yours,

Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D.
Director
