The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strives to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all parts of the federal workforce. In alignment with the NIH’s efforts and the recent White House Executive Order on Advancing Equity, Justice, and Opportunity for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, we recognize the diversity and breadth of the communities and populations that make up our workforce.

EDI is updating the Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Special Emphasis Portfolio to become the Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) Special Emphasis Portfolio. This is another step toward better understanding AANHPI communities that represent a multitude of cultures, languages, and experiences in the United States. In our data collection efforts, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are now disaggregated within the Race & Ethnicity category when reporting NIH Workforce Demographics. These practices hope to reveal any disparities that may exist within AANHPI communities.

To find out more about the Portfolio and how to get involved, please visit our website or reach out to the AANHPI Portfolio Strategist, Ms. Caroline Goon.
